Caring Memories Project Passport to the past - lifeline to the present |
![]() |
Vision for Leith are taking part in the Caring Memories Life Book Project. This will be FREE to anyone from Edinburgh. We are able to offer an opportunity to friends and family of people with "memory issues" to make these books (worth £40 each). The Free books are funded by the Scottish Government, and they are on a first-come, first serve basis for ‘completed’ books. Among a long list of expert advisors, Caring Memories has been developed in close cooperation with The Dementia Services Development Centre at the University of Stirling, Scotland who provided a grant to run a pilot.
Caring Memories is the modern version of a scrap book photo album but combined, uniquely, with weekly expert activity plans. The prompts provide straight forward guidance that help to jog those precious memories and keep them alive. See www.caringmemories.net for further details.
Research shows that regularly using a life story book triggers the feel good factor of reminiscence and lets people share their background with those around them which brings pleasure in its own right.
Groups will be held in South Leith Parish Church Halls and there will be a consultant to advise about scanning and uploading photographs to the internet. Once everything is uploaded the books are printed and posted. The books are well worth making and are of an extremely high quality. You can view a sample on their web site. This is an ongoing programme during 2009 or until the 1,000 free books are completed, so please register at any time. Books can be made by the person themselves or by a friend.
Should you require further information or have anyone who would like to register, please do not hesitate to email us or telephone 0131 554 2578.
"This product enables life story work benefits across a variety of settings. From living independently on your own with perfect memory, to occasional memory loss right through to a diagnosis of memory loss." Professor June Andrews |
